The No-Border Camp in Krynki, Poland is now in its 5 day. Over 300 people have participated in the camp.
06.Jul.01 - The camp started with a demonstration in Bialystok and then moved to Krynki. On the first full day in Krynki, it was decided to make a happening, infomation tent and lecture about local Tartar minorities in the central town square. We were met with an astonishing show of force from the side of the police, military and border police who sent out doyens of vans, a couple trucks with water cannons, two transporters and a tank. Such displays t been seen in Poland since the martial law days. Four people were arrested and police tried to provoke a riot but campers kept calm and gathered people in the park. There was a fantastic show of support from the local people and, because of this, the atmosphere changed considerably. On Sunday we returned to town with music and a Hyde Park and had a football match with the locals. (By the way, we lost terribly.)
During the camp ve had good opportunity to explain why we are here and have found many people are quite sympathetic and have even visited us and want to support us. Besides this, ve had a number of discussions and lectures, some outdoor film screenings on a big screen, a disco and some other events.
