Ognuno e un esperto - the expert base, a blind date

The expertbase - an electronic pinboard. It doesn't eliminate the paper mess, with notes of telephone numbers, names and little references, but it extends it to include a new dimension. In high-flying jargon, the expert base is a multi-functional data base. Practically speaking however, 'Everyone Is an Expert' alias 'ognuno e un esperto', is nothing more than an agency in the Internet. Anybody who wants to can apply: take a free e-mail address and enter information into the database on what you believe to be qualified as, and then wait for any offers and take them up if you want - regardless of the residence status of the experts, of course. This idea is so far only a promise, a possibility of using the data base.

• If you are looking for a job - the expert base will not give it to you. But it can provide the opportunity. Who can offer a job, can enter it, who is looking for one, can announce it there.
• If you dislike the way migrants are publicly presented, without respect, without history, you can present yourself here with another profile.
• If you want to inform yourself about your home country, you can search the appropriate websites, connections and information.
• Anyone looking for support or assistance, can inform him/herself there.
• If you want to tell a story or give tips, do it.

We are coming to Turin to promote the expert base possibilities. We will therefore install our bases in the Moroccan telephone shop in the via cottolengo, in the kiosk in the via palazzo di citta, and on the market as well as making it mobile on a three-wheeler. The expert base will be there and wait for its users or approach them.

A data base can neither give people their dignity, nor a job. The expert base is an experiment, currently in the investigation phase and in future it will perhaps be a mirror of the mult-faceted, multi-lingual and international cooperation around work and migration. An example of networks and cross-border initiatives.

The expert base is a propaganda machine. A job machine. An image producer. A market of unused possibilities. A bazaar - a stock exchange - a no-budget provider. A map with messages from all over the world, which tells his- and her story in the form of stories.

'Ognuno e un esperto' takes position. The expert base is not interested in the Bossis and Finis of this world and their laws. It is a possibility, an instrument to undermine such limitations. It is not interested in who has a work permit, a residence permit and how and why somebody came to Italy or to Europe. It doesn't judge whether migrants and migration are useful. But it offers the possibility to enter information on which employer is an asshole, who pays badly, who harrasses women at work, who manages bad sweatshops.

What would the expert job recruitment agencies be, without the workers and employees they recruit? What would the small and large Bossis and Finis be, without the clandestini who they rant and rage against? What would the cops be, without the people they hunt, beat up and arrest? They would all be no experts anymore, and what would they be good for? What is the value Ðwho is worth what- and what is worth anything anymore?

The expert base removes local limitations. It is a sign for initiative and connection. It does away with the legend that machines relieve humans of work, and the myth that the state, the administration or Cyborgs supply you.

We take the easy route: people, who are looking for something, or have something to say, or want to offer or to represent - can get directly in contact with each other via the expert base. They can use the electronic connections for their own needs or to win allies.

The expert base works like a stock exchange. If nobody offers anything, nobody gets anything. We have to input the data, the information, ourselves. The expert base is not a substitute, it doesn't do it for you - we don't do it for you. It is not the small engine, which replaces the large one. The expert base is a blind date. Either it is a public museum installation - or it is a machine from the people.

'Ognuno e un esperto' refers to which work must be done where without compromise:
people in our societies have universal access to resources and possibilities, which were created and made available by people all over the world. People have the right to come, to stay and to move.
'Ognuno e un esperto' reflects a basic social need again. A need that cannot be satisfied in this society, only under degrading and exploitative conditions. People say, another world is possible. The expert base is an instrument - we are the players and we have to play on it.
